Slack
Evidently reads the Slack channels you add it to: volunteers posting their hours, case updates, photos of sign-up sheets. Never direct messages.
Not available yet. You can try it with made-up data, not your own account. It reads only the channels you invite it to, never direct messages.

3. The record it makes
- Type
- Outcome: Website published
- Date
- 27 Oct 2026
- Programme
- Digital Skills
- Person
- P-0030
- Reads
- Messages and thread replies in up to 10 channels you tick, and photos posted there.
- Leaves out
- Slack's notices, small talk and plans to meet. Never direct messages or channels Evidently wasn't added to.
- How often
- Every 30 minutes.
- You need
- Someone who can add apps to your Slack, then /invite @Evidently in each channel.
- When things change
- New replies in threads from the last two weeks are picked up. An edit after a message was read is not.
Connect it, step by step
In Slack, open each channel to read and type /invite @Evidently.
In Sources, pick Slack, then Continue with Slack.
Choose your workspace and press Allow. If your workspace needs an admin to approve apps, Slack asks them.
Tick the channels. A channel Evidently isn't in says so.
Check how many messages each holds, and press Read this channel.
Where you'll see it
- Sources shows the messages read, the records found, and when.
- Overview counts volunteer hours. The evidence shows the message, the hours highlighted.
- Settings, Names and words lists the channel's members, added to your team so they are never counted.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Evidently isn't in #case-updates yet.” | In Slack, type /invite @Evidently in that channel, then try again. |
| “Evidently isn't in one of the channels this source reads…” | Someone removed it. Invite it again there, then press Read now. |
| “The service asked us to slow down…” | Nothing is lost: it carries on next time. A busy channel's first read can take hours. |
